The Sustainable Design project
My initial thoughts and reactions this project were excitement because we got to expand on ideas that we were passionate about.
We went on a series of field trips and conducted a series of interviews to figure out people's values. First, we interviewed the students of AHS to find out what the community values most. We heard a lot of people say they valued the outdoors, multi-purpose spaces and a secluded, relaxing area to destress and chill out. Based on these values, we figured out that a tree house would be a perfect fit. We used almost all recycled wood that was found at AHS and didn't use anything we needed to buy.
We started buy digging 2 foot holes in the ground, inserting thick, sturdy beams into the holes and then pouring mud into the hole in hopes that it would solidify. We used random beams and sheets of particle board for the platform and found more wood to make supports. The tree house turned out pretty solid for what it was made out of and the timeframe we were given to build it.
I honestly don't really remember anything that impacted or stood out to me during the presentation or the field trips. I honestly didn't pay much attention to the field trip or the presenter too much because i was just waiting to start the treehouse.
I was pretty happy because my group consisted of mostly friends and like minded peers. We picked a pretty ambitious project so we were all a little nervous but all of us were excited to start building. We were given very little instructuction on this project which gave us a lot of freedom and forced us to collaborate a lot.
